Weight Loss Camp - Objectives of the program

  • This program is for people whose BMI (Body Mass Index= your weight in kgs divided by the square of your height in meters) is between 25 and 35
    e.g. between 81 and 113 kilograms (12.8 and 17.8 st; 180 and 250 lb) for a height of a 1.8 meters (5 ft 11 in).
  • The objective is not to have a spectacular loss of weight endangering your health and not efficient on the long term, but to reeducate your eating habits in order to lose weight regularly without gaining kilos back.
  • The result should be getting a much slimmer silhouette, and learning how to pursue losing weight at home until reaching YOUR optimum weight.
  • It is not only a matter of loosing weight but of regaining self-esteem and love for life.
  • The advantages of our program are:
    • being in a small unit (no more than 12 participants), which allows you to be taken care of individually;
    • spending 3 times less money than in a weight loss boot camp in the US;
    • tasting healthy French & Provence cuisine;

Come to Côte d'Azur to lose weight while having Fun in our French paradise

Rapid weight loss can be just as dangerous as obesity, and is also less sustainable than gradual weight loss.

Losing weight at the rate of two to three pounds per week is recommended.

Weight loss camp that is only a week or two in duration is unlikely to result in significant weight loss. Our sessions are 3 weeks long as it is the minimum time period for getting on the good trails. What is important is that you will learn to live in a way that will result in significant weight optimization over time.

Optimum result would require to follow two or three consecutive sessions.

Having physical activity is also vital.
Being on a diet without physical activity leads to losing muscle rather than fat & may endanger your health.

Physical activity will burn calories. It does not help losing weight though as you will gain muscle which is heavier than fat but it will slimmer your silhouette and decrease your body fat, thus making you much healthier.

Getting a slimmer silhouette is important for self-esteem and social acceptance.
Over weighted kids are bullied by other children. These obese youngsters are less likely to participate in extracurricular school activities and less likely to date. Statistically they are more likely to drop out of school. Obese children metabolize drugs differently than healthy weight children. Overweight adolescents have a 70% chance of becoming obese adults.

Over weighted adults are less likely to get good jobs. They are more likely to have chronic health problems (cardiac, diabetes...) and addiction to antidepressant drugs. Unfortunately fat people are more abused and suffer more verbal attacks than slim to average ones.

Our weight loss camp is effective because of the support the participants give to, and receive from, one another.
To make it even more efficient, adults without children should consider participating to our weight loss camp with their partner or with friends or relatives either with similar weight problem or just supportive.

Parents with weight problems or with over weighted kids should consider participating to our weight loss camp with them because such a program works even better when the entire family is involved. Our camp program will help you change your family behavior where the environment at home cannot and the topic becomes emotionally charged, especially with communication breaking down between the child(ren) and parents.

Thus a sense of community with a support network will be established.

There is no peer pressure to be competitive. Participating in our activities is not embarrassing as all participants have a similar goal of losing weight and adopting a healthier lifestyle. The whole focus of our camp is geared towards having every participant included, encouraged and applauded.

You will enjoy our activities (swimming, hiking, biking...) that will burn calories. If you are fond of a particular sport, the French Riviera offers them all (horseback riding, mountain biking, golf, tennis, jetski, air gliding...)

Our dietary program will not risk your health as fad diet would. Another important objective is to help you and your family or partner learn to eat more healthy foods.

Weight Loss Camp - Lose weight, get slimmer, get fit!

Kick start your fitness/weight loss in sunny Provence (South of France), through diet, physical exercise and behavioral counseling while enjoying & discovering the landmarks of the French Riviera.

Weight loss vacations don't imply bland food; in our program you will enjoy tasty French food.

The best food will not do you any good over the long term if you cannot replicate it when you return home. Our weight loss vacations offer counseling and optional cooking classes so you can learn some of our recipes and improve your cooking skills. If you do not cook, you will learn the basics; if you are a confirmed cook, when back home, you will be able to prepare waistline-friendly healthy meals and control your weight on the long-term.

Our informal group discussions, will allow you to express your concerns and share experience with other participants.

Health lectures and cooking lessons will help you understand all aspects of healthy nutrition.

We offer 3 weeks sessions. It is recommended however to follow two consecutive sessions for a maximum efficiency. You will live in a Provence style house (http://rivieraapt-leicantareu.blogspot.com/) with your own private bedroom and shared common areas. The house is not luxury and is secluded but it is comfortable, quiet, well located for sightseeing and has all modern commodities. It is ideal for a retreat and concentrate on your only goal: get slimmer. In each bedroom, there is WIFI and TV. There is an Internet spot where you can connect in case you do not have your own laptop. This house includes an outdoor nicely shaped pool and an indoor heated pool.
It is hard to achieve weight loss alone. You need that extra push from the people around. You will get the motivation by fellow participants. You will work together for reaching your common goals. However our program does not include more than 12 participants; thus allowing you to benefit totally from our caring and counseling.

The ideal would be that you convince friends and/or relatives to join you as the house has up to 6 bedrooms (with single or twin beds) for all of you. Your family/friends circle will support you in your long term efforts if they are involved from the start. It is statically proven indeed that the involvement of spouses is critical for long term benefits. People who accompany you won’t be obliged to follow the program but everybody is welcome to participate to activities (gym, sightseeing, beach, …). There is a declining pricing depending on the number of persons of your party and the duration of your stay. Moreover you can get group air fare if you are a party of at least 10 persons. If supporters of yours cannot join for 3 weeks, they can stay less or be replaced by other friends as long as the number of occupied rooms is the same for the entire session. We can also organize tours for accompanists (itinerary, transport, accommodation…) in inner Provence, Italy, Paris… during their stay at extra but moderate fee.

Some session are reserved for families with kids (under their parents’ responsibility). Under 18 are not accepted in non family sessions. Young participants must respect the house rules and quietness of the residents.

You will leave your home environment which often promotes unhealthy routines and learn to change your life style for an healthier one. The decision to attend our program requires a strong commitment from you though. We won’t be successful if you do not play the game & do not respect our advices & rules.

In the United States two-thirds of adults and one in five children are overweight or obese, making them more vulnerable to chronic diseases like diabetes or cardiovascular conditions or cancer. 27% of Americans aged 17-24 years are overweight. The United States spends nearly $ 150 billion annually to treat diseases related to obesity, nearly twice as much as to treat cancer, said Tuesday, July 28, 2010 the U.S. Secretary for Health, Ms Kathleen Sebelius.

French are renown for eating a lot but they do not gain weight. The efficiency of our French balanced diet is proven by statistics (despite French figures became poorer these last 10 years due to our kids & teenagers adopting American ways of eating):

Moreover the Mediterranean diet (also known as the Cretan diet) is recognized by scientists as being the healthiest one world-wide. Not only it prevents obesity but it fights cardiac diseases (95% less than in the US) and cancer as it is rich in antioxidants and vitamins C et E. Studies have shown that people following such a diet decrease diabetes risk by 83% & Alzheimer risk by 40 %. Life expectancy is in average 10 years more than in other western countries.

People staying for 2 or 3 consecutive sessions, will benefit of free palpate and roll massages to fight cellulite & orange peel. Per testimonies, 12 massages over 6 weeks combined with appropriate diet and exercises, allow to lose 6 to 14cm (5.5 inches) around the waist (for men & women), and 3 to 7 cm (2.7 inches) around the thighs (mainly for women).


People who attend a single session can still have palpate and roll massages at an extra fee; this treatment requires at least 12 sessions to be fully efficient though.
The water jets from our massage shower will also help you reshape your silhouette.

For a complete transformation from head to toe, a full day "Image makeover coaching” is available at 680€ (initial consultation, hair design, makeup, clothes shopping) versus $1350 in the US.

People who would like it, can practice on demand water sports (water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing, diving, fishing, mountain rafting …), country sports (biking, tennis, golf, spelunking, horseback riding, archery, paintball…), air sports (air gliding, ascending parachute, balloon, helicopter flight…) and mountain sports (rock climbing, mountaineering, canyoning, via-ferrata, hunting, fly fishing, bunjee jumping, skiing in winter…).
They will be charged for additional transportation & entry fees.

Weight Loss Camp - Daily program

In order to succeed it is important to have a lot of physical activities and counseling, i.e. to follow the planning and not miss mandatory activities. Not mandatory activities are highly recommended tough.

Meals are composed by a dietician; none should be missed (mandatory).

Conferences (optional) : Diet and health conferences are highly recommended. Other conferences will give you an insight into French and Provence culture & way of life.

Soft physical activity (mandatory)
Twice a week, you will practice Gym or Aqua-gym (gym in the indoor heated pool) with a small group (6 persons max).
There are easy walks along the coast or in the close-by mountain with terrific scenery.
If enough people like it, we can also have dance lessons (tango, Provence folk, ball floor, in line US folk…).
People can swim in the indoor pool whenever a mandatory activity is not planned and in the outdoor pool whenever they wish.

Beach (optional): We will go to a city with a beach: Nice (the prettiest city of the Riviera), Cannes (famous for its Croisette and film festival), Antibes (a charming medieval city on the sea front), Vallauris (pottery capital), Biot (and its glassware workshops), Golfe Juan (and its gorgeous sandy beaches)... The persons who want neither to swim nor sunbathe can enjoy museums, sightsee, shop or stroll in the city.

Open discussion session (optional): on weekdays, before going to the beach, there will be an open discussion session. Attendees will select a topic and openly discuss it freely based on their personal experience. Examples of frequently chosen topics: body image, causes of overeating, relapse prevention, embarrassment, loneliness, anxiety, impact of weight on social life, on job opportunities…

Market or shopping (optional)
There are a lot of Provencal, Italian… markets as well as ‘vide-greniers’ which are village wide garage sales. You will enjoy their atmosphere as well as doing good deals (souvenirs, clothes, art pieces,…).

Cooking lessons (optional)
Volunteers (2 persons per course) will learn how to cook tasty French family cuisine which do not increase weight

Practical class (shopping, going to the post office, cooking, reading the newspaper…)
Grammar (conjugation...), Conversation …

Siesta (mandatory) : Each day it is recommended to have a short nap after lunch but you can use this time for resting, reading, listening to music, watching TV…

Shutdown (mandatory): Good sleep is very important. The premises gates close at 22:00 (10:00pm); residents must be back home before that time.

The program includes sightseeing in small vans and chauffeur service. There is no need for a car but if you have one, you can park it on the premises at 20€ per day or 120€ per week.

A session is confirmed once 4 rooms have been booked.

Our program is offered on a twin-sharing basis. For single occupancy, an additional 50% of the accommodation rates applies.
A 30% deposit is required at booking and a 3-months Cancellation Policy applies.
Another 50% is required one month before arrival. The balance must be paid upon arrival.
There are no credits or refunds for late arrivals or early departures.
